Hailing from the wind-whipped Texas Panhandle, Joe Ely absorbed all the juicy sounds blowing by: Buddy Holly rock 'n' roll, honky-tonk, Tex-Mex, blues, rockabilly, country, and R&B. They all contributed to making Ely one of the finest songwriters in a state lousy with them, plus a fierce roots rocker who can get reflective with the flinty-eyed honesty that comes from peering at thunderheads building across the prairie. That's the tone of his latest album, 2011's Satisfied at Last, which assesses his life and times as he negotiates his 60s. Opening will be Lucette, a young singer-songwriter from Edmonton with a country-folk vibe laced with dark streaks of rock and blues.
