To mark the 20th anniversary of jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson's landmark album Blue Light 'Til Dawn, Blue Note has reissued a digitally remastered version with three new live tracks from Wilson's 1994 European tour. Wilson, meanwhile, is on tour performing Blue Light in its entirety with guitarist Brandon Ross and bassist Lonnie Plaxico, who played on the original album, plus drummer John Davis, guitarist Kevin Breit, and Gregoire Maret on harmonica. Blue Light was remarkable because Wilson used her smoky voice, unusual instrumentation, and idiosyncratic arrangements to create striking, sultry, jazz-infused versions of pop, blues, R&B, and folk nuggets rather than jazz standards. Her interpretations of tunes like Robert Johnson's "Hellhound on My Trail," Joni Mitchell's "Black Crow," and Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey" profoundly influenced such singers as Norah Jones and Karrin Allyson.
