Mercy Killers

Actor and playwright Michael Milligan takes the American healthcare crisis head on in his critically lauded one-man show, Mercy Killers, which arrives on tour for a short run over the next two weeks. Milligan, who has appeared on Broadway in the likes of August: Osage County and off Broadway in the original run of Will Eno's Thom Pain, cuts through the rhetoric with a straightforward tale. Blue collar, Rush Limbaugh-loving Joe has seen his world turn upside down after his wife, Jane, is diagnosed with cancer. Her illness slowly bankrupts the couple, which leads Joe to greater and greater acts of desperation. Milligan's play has been seen throughout the country and the world in the past couple of years, including readings and performances in the Twin Cities and Duluth early in the show's development. More recently, it has been to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and off Broadway. $25. 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays; 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27; 7 p.m. Sunday, May 4. 3501 Chicago Ave. S., Minneapolis; 612-825-0459.
