Minnesota urban bluegrass boys Pert Near Sandstone have thrived by injecting the new into old-timey string band music with just the right contemporary touch. This show marks the release of the Pert's sixth album, The Hardest Part of Leaving, with a pair of sets, the first focusing on the band's rich catalogue, followed by an airing of the new material. "Surprise special guests" are promised. Leaving sports a handful of traditional tunes, including the blues standard "Stagger Lee" as a bluegrass romp. But it's mostly originals with Pert's trademark juxtaposition of vintage picking and modern sensibilities, sometimes in hints of pop or rock, but more often in the lyrics' 21st-century takes on relationships ("Another Fool"), larceny ("A Couple Off the Top"), and reveries about spots near ("25th & Riverside") and far ("Wish This Was New Orleans").
