Mike Fotis and Joe Bozic, who perform as Ferrari McSpeedy, have been improvising and writing sketch comedy together for nearly 20 years. They know it's hard, but rarely fail to conceal that fact from audiences. This month the duo unveils their latest creation, a series of sketches called Merry Spider Cafe, as part of the Sketch Lab series at the Brave New Workshop's Student Union. There, the pair will moonlight as instructors and co-directors. Anybody who wonders why the team is called Ferrari McSpeedy has likely never seen them perform; their shows are set at a rapid pace, traveling to strange destinations that they then revel in. So, what does it take to maintain a nearly two decade creative partnership? Mutual admiration is probably a good start. "Joe is smart. Like super duper uber smart," Fotis says. "Not only does he have brilliant ideas, he's able to understand the ideas floating around in my head that I'm not always able to articulate." "Mike attacks comedy like it's holding his dog hostage," Bozic responds. "There aren't many people that can jump into a character and commit as hard as he does. Every scene I do with him serves as a reminder that I need to play harder to keep up."
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: April 11. Continues through April 26, 2014
