Dean Wareham

Dean Wareham's been a college-rock icon for nearly three decades. With slow-core progenitors Galaxy 500 in the twilight of the Reagan era and lounge experimenters Luna after that, he's donned many different music-making guises, all of them united by his dreamy guitar work and chilly deadpan delivery. His self-titled debut solo album — recorded with My Morning Jacket's Jim James behind the boards and playing in his backing band — features nine tracks so uniformly appealing and delightfully diaphanous you can't help but wonder what took him so long to make a play for the solo spotlight. With Advance Base.
