Jennifer Davis may be one of the Twin Cities' most beloved painters, in part because of her richly detailed, whimsical, and intimate works. With her show at Public Functionary, she's expanded that oeuvre to make room for large-scale paintings inspired by the carnival. Don't expect run-of-the-mill carousel ponies, though. As filtered through Davis's singular aesthetic, lions, tigers, and bears take on an almost anime quality. With vibrant hues and finely rendered brushstrokes, this work recaptures a summer spent traveling to eight cities in eight days in search of vintage carousel animals and paintings. There will be an opening reception from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, March 22, and an artist's talk at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: March 22. Continues through April 25, 2014
