Minimum Wage

Minnesota is currently one of four states with the lowest minimum wage: $6.15 per hour. The minimum-wage debate is of special concern to Rogue Citizen, a collective of artists who initially met working as security guards. Since then, they have become a fixture in local labor and social justice campaigns. As legislature negotiates the Raise the Wage bill, Gamut Gallery in downtown Minneapolis will host the second installment of "Minimum Wage," a one-day-only exhibit of over 200 pieces, each created within one hour by the artists of Rogue Citizen to raise awareness for low-wage work in Minnesota. The community is invited to purchase creations for any price they choose at or above Minnesota minimum wage. The event will open with a showing and speakers, followed by live performances from local hip-hop artist and slam poet Guante, Doomtree affiliate Ander Other, Jeremy Carpenter of KMOJ, and activist and acoustic guitarist Pilar Vatres, among others. A grant from Arts and Democracy Project will allow all proceeds from the event to be donated to local community low-wage worker organizations, and neighboring restaurant Devil's Advocate will offer a "blue plate" dinner and PBR special to attendees.
