Just before beginning work on her reunion album with the B-Sides, California-Minnesota rocker Tina Schlieske got together with guitarist Patrik Tanner and knocked out a cool little EP that pays tribute to some of the music that influenced her early career. One of The Boys: Pinned Up covers key male Minnesota artists — Soul Asylum, the Jayhawks, Hüsker Dü, Bob Dylan, Prince, and the Replacements — as nicely turned rock ballads, with particularly affecting vocals from Schlieske on Prince's "When Doves Cry" and the Mats' "Sixteen Blue." This show will revisit those tunes, along with other important material from her formative years by the likes of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, T. Rex, and Adam Ant. The new B-Sides album, Barricade, is currently being mixed, aiming for an early March release.
