For January's installment of Third Thursday, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts will be teaming up with Minnesota science museums for a night that celebrates both art and science. During the party, folks from the Bell Museum of Natural History will invite guests to create scientific illustrations while touching on how seashells — a natural mathematical phenomenon themselves — inspire art (which is also explored in the MIA's "Shells: Magic and Science"). Meanwhile, the Science Museum of Minnesota will be creating microscopic paintings. Learn how advances in technology have improved 3D scanning and printing, and see the chemistry behind art preservation, as demonstrated in "Restoring a Masterwork III," the museum's exhibition that allows viewers to watch the restoration of Max Beckmann's Blind Man's Buff triptych (a process that is not generally made public). The beer of the evening will be Summit, and music will be provided by Greg Grease and SCRNS.
