Cabaret

Following the success of last year's Aida, Theatre Latte Da and the Hennepin Theatre Trust return for the second Broadway Re-Imagined production, John Kander and Fred Ebb's Cabaret. Set in Berlin in the days just before Hitler came to power, Cabaret follows an American author who becomes involved with singer Sally Bowles and the denizens of the Kit Kat Klub. Their love affair plays against the rising tide of fascism in Berlin, as the Nazis gain more converts and power. The politics come into focus via the experiences of two older characters, Herr Schultz and Fraulein Schneider. The musical features a string of classic songs, including "Wilkommen," "The Money Song," "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," and the title tune. Theatre Latte Da's Peter Rothstein directs the production, which features Kira Lace Hawkins as Sally Bowles, Sean Dooley as Cliff Bradshaw, Tyler Michaels as the Emcee, Jim Detmar as Herr Schultz, and Sally Wingert as Fraulein Schneider. The show is in previews January 15-17. (Photo by Tom Sandelands)
