This will be the first year that Ugly Sweater Run, a nationwide event, makes it to the Twin Cities. It should be a good fit, as Minnesotans have been known to proudly flaunt a tacky sweater — even before it was hip. This Saturday, kids and adults will put on their ugliest knits — be they of the chunky cable, itchy wool, or durable cotton variety — and run or walk along the trails of Harriet Island in a flurry of delightfully bad fashion. Once runners make it to the end of the 5K, they'll be encouraged to double-fist their drinks, as hot chocolate and Sam Adams beer will be on hand to help people warm up and get into the holiday spirit. Toy donations collected at the event will benefit Toys for Tots. Sign up at theuglysweaterrun.com.
