High on Fire's well-traveled vocalist Matt Pike sings like he's exhaling flames, and his bellow is every bit as key to the band's wallop as the revving guitars. Pike has had his share of personal drama — last summer, mid-tour, he checked himself into treatment for alcohol — but he's been remarkably reliable as a songwriter. HoF, which Pike formed after the breakup of his '90s band Sleep, has dropped six albums since 2000, all of them master classes in stoner-metal heave. While it's true that some of their songs are nearly identical to the next, Pike, bassist Jeff Matz, and drummer Des Kensel are known to unleash the occasional ascendant masterpiece. Openers are Virginia's doom-metal quintet Windhand and Norway's equally heavy Kvelertak. 18+.
