This weekend, Whittier neighborhood arts college MCAD will be hosting its annual student art sale. For those who have never attended the popular event, know this: It is epic. We're talking multiple floors filled to the max with pieces to peruse. There will be works on the walls, in the hallways, down corridors, stacked on the floor, and filling rooms. It's no wonder that the building is practically bursting with art, as 6,000-something pieces by about 400 different artists will be on display and available for purchase. Mediums include paintings, furniture, sculpture, comics art, photography, jewelry, and just about anything else you can imagine. Prices vary greatly, too. One patron might end up spending $1,500 on a large-scale drawing, while another takes home a $40 small canvas work that will really make that windowsill "pop." While Thursday night's posh reception is always a good time, don't worry if you plan to go on one of the more economically-ticketed days; with the sheer volume of work here things will hardly be completely picked over come Friday and Saturday. All proceeds from the event benefit the artists directly, or the school's scholarship funds.
