French performance artist Jérôme Bel is happily becoming a fixture at Walker Art Center. This week, he returns for the fourth time to blow our minds with his off-center brand of movement theater. This go-around he collaborates with Switzerland's Theater HORA, a company of disabled actors, on a work that probes questions around identity, discrimination, and our own preconceptions. Sound like a downer? It's not. Actually, the 11 actors simply being themselves come off as highly complex, witty, and fascinating individuals. The English magazine Frieze praised "Disabled Theater" as "90 minutes of uneasy, preconception-probing estrangement and empathy." Welcome to Bel's world.
