Equilibrium: Half-Breed

This Saturday PC Muñoz, one of the recipients of the Loft Literary Center's new Spoken Word Immersion Fellowship, joins programming director Bao Phi in curating Equilibrium, the organization's award-winning quarterly spoken-word series geared especially toward audiences of color. Phi, who has been running the program for over a decade, says that this year each event will be tied to a fellow from the new program. For Half-Breed, the series will present performances from mixed-race indigenous artists. Muñoz chose the title "as a way to deflate and subvert" the pejorative term, and to "directly confront the caricatures and stereotypes" associated with mixed-race people. "For better or worse, it has nothing to do with Cher," he adds. Muñoz shares top billing with fellow Bay Area artist Erica Nalani Benton, and they are both joined by Emily Johnson, R. Vincent Moniz Jr., Jennifer Kreisberg, and DJ Nak. The evening will also include graphic art by Julio Salgado. (Pictured: PC Muñoz)
