Classy Aussie indie-folk outfit the Paper Kites craft lush and sweeping tunes whose American contemporaries from the likes of Ida have always done well with the NPR-music-loving crowd. A combination of stateliness and steaminess has made the band a big deal in the Land Down Under. Their latest album, States, proves the quintet adept at both swooning strings via "Living Colour" and the coffeehouse-approved folktronica of "Young." In the record's best moments, the group manages to conjure a bit of Sade's laidback sensuality. With Reuben and the Dark, Rah Rah. 18+.
