The Twin Cities music and comics scenes both continue to flourish, although their creative outputs don't typically overlap. However, the two shall cross paths at "Rock Ink Roll," Altered Esthetics' latest group show celebrating work by local comics artists inspired by music. The happening is part exhibition, part release party, as it also marks the publication of a 120-plus-page anthology of the same name produced by Big Time Attic, International Cartoonist Conspiracy, and the gallery. The series, now in its seventh year, features original work from folks like Brittney Sabo, Kevin Cannon, Ken Avidor, Lupi McGinty, Athena Currier, and Nate Patrin. Featured stories range in tone and style, from colorful and cartoony to muted and realistic, and include autobiographical works, fantastical tales, and quiet pondering. Folks will be able to pick up a copy during the opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, November 1, though the books tend to sell out quickly. The gallery show will feature prints from the publication, as well as gig posters and paintings, with an expanded version of the anthology available online. There will also be an artists' discussion at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 23. (Pictured: Work by Drew Brockington)
Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 2. Continues through Nov. 23, 2013
