Basia Bulat

Easily the coolest auto-harpist in the indie-rock game, Canadian songstress Basia Bulat recalls the music of Joni Mitchell both in her lovelorn literary lyricism and jazzy vocal agility. Her latest album, Tall Tall Shadow, shows Bulat opting for austere vocal-showcase solo balladry on "It Can't Be You" and ornate orchestral fare on "Someone." Not since Pentangle in the late '60s has vaguely "medieval"-sounding folk rock been executed this well. Anyone in search of a killer soundtrack for their next Game of Thrones-themed party should have Bulat queued up. With Foreign Fields. 18+.
