This Wednesday, folks will be invited to experience fashion through the decades at the Union Depot in St. Paul. The runway will come to life with travel-inspired collections by local designers including Christopher Straub, Laura Fulk, Emma Berg, and Max Lohrbach. Participating designer Samantha Rei has created three short trenches inspired by Louis Vuitton and Hermes luggage, specifically turn-of-the-last-century travel trunks. "I was kind of excited to do a show about time travel that had nothing to do with steampunk," says Rei, who is known for her steampunk aesthetic. "I think because it's such a hot buzzword, a lot of people have been jumping on the bandwagon. I was excited to be challenged in a different way. Also, I really like doing capsule collections because I feel like I can let go a little bit. I can try things I've been meaning to try." In addition to a high-fashion show, there will be musical street performers and train attendants passing complimentary hors d'ouevres. Be sure to arrive early, as there is no admittance after 7:45 p.m. due to the extensive lights and audiovisual display. Tickets are available at timetravelfashionshow.eventbrite.com.
