More About

This fall, Mu Performing Arts opens a new era for the company with a world-premiere work by Lao-American playwright Saymoukday Duangphouxay Vongsay. Company founder Rich Shiomi has stepped aside after guiding the company for two decades, leaving it in the hands of Randy Reyes, who also directs this production. The post-apocalyptic adventure, which mixes a trio of highly popular character types, was created through the Mu Performing Arts/Jerome Foundation New Performance Program. In it, there will be plenty of kung-fu action and a hip-hop score crafted live each night by DJ Kool Akiem. While there is plenty of pop culture running through the play's veins, the show also has ties to the larger spiritual world, as it uses the basic tenets of Buddhism to frame the story. The cast includes not just the main actors, but also a "fighting chorus," with scenes choreographed by performer Allen Malicsi. The opening weekend coincides with the annual Zombie Pup Crawl. If you dress up like a zombie at any time during the run, you can take $5 off the ticket price. (Photo by Aaron Fenster)
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 11. Continues through Oct. 27, 2013
