U.K.'s Communion label has extended its club shows to these shores and invited singer-songwriter Willy Mason (pictured), Florida's Roadkill Ghost Choir, Yacht Club DJs, and the 4onthefloor. Mason's first album in five years, Carry On, is infused with blues, classic country, and folk elements, along with his philosophical musings on existential and political matters. This one was recorded with London producer Dan Carey of Franz Ferdinand and M.I.A. association, who added quirky drumbox rhythms and ironic electric guitars, both of which knock around the catchy radio track "Talk Me Down." Rootsy Roadkill Ghost Choir is southern gothic by implication and instrumentation that runs to banjo and pedal steel. But on their Quiet Light EP, RGC show off sufficient indie-rock streaks, punkish spirit, and lush vocals to belie easy categorization. Yacht Club DJs and Minneapolis's own blues-rockers the 4onthefloor round out the bill. 18+.
