Seventeen years ago, Bain Boehlke directed (and was featured in) a production of Sam Shepherd's Fool for Love, a striking drama about a pair of lovers locked in a seemingly endless power struggle. It was presented at the original Jungle Theater location, which was a tiny storefront venue. It was the first show I ever saw at Boehlke's theater, and I was instantly hooked (I saw the production twice that summer), and I attended shows for nearly a decade before moving to the Twin Cities. Boehlke brings the play back in a new production at the theater's present, slightly larger, location — just a block or so away from where the original show played. While this is a new effort, there is some DNA from the original. Terry Hempleman returns as Eddie, one of the lovers at the center of the story. He is joined by Jennifer Blagen as May, Jason Peterson as Martin, and Allen Hamilton as the Old Man. Boehlke has also adapted the original staging for the larger space at the current Jungle, but the production promises to recapture the thrills and insights of the original. (Photo by Drew Trampe)
