Minnesota State Fair

Though Minnesotans have been known to hold divergent views on an endless range of topics, there is one commonality capable of uniting citizens from all corners of our state. Inaugurated in 1859, the Minnesota State Fair remains a cherished end-of-summer tradition for Minnesotans from all walks of life. Perennial attractions reflective of the state's agrarian background include livestock competitions and agricultural exhibitions, while the interactive Eco Experience looks to the future of green technology. Creatively inclined fairgoers can view the juried works in the Fine Arts Center, or simply keep on the watch for Arts A'Fair, featuring pop-up performances from lauded local troupes. Along the Mighty Midway, guests can partake in an array of attractions, including such favorites as Space Tower and the Haunted House, or opt for speedier thrill rides throughout Adventure Park. Entertainment choices similarly abound, from the national headliners in the Grandstand to the more than 100 acts playing on stages around the grounds. But the aspect of the fair that consistently induces mouthwatering cravings remains the delectable pleasures offered among the 300-plus concession stands. With more than 450 foods to whet every appetite, the fair allows guests to indulge in an astonishingly imaginative selection of favorites, the vast majority of which are prepared in scalding oil and/or presented to diners on a stick. Edible temptations new to the fair this year include wine-glazed deep-fried meatloaf, pork belly sliders, bacon-wrapped grilled shrimp on-a-stick, grilled glazed doughnuts, and chocolate chili ice cream.
