Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars did not show up fully formed, though it was hard to argue with the commercial success of his debut, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Last December, on follow-up Unorthodox Jukebox, the Hawaii native revealed the extent of the compositional chops that justified his being credited as a co-writer on Cee Lo's insta-classic "Fuck You." Check the authentic reggae of "Show Me," the easy glide of opener "Young Girls," and the Prince-ly "Gorilla" — all of which help to redeem the uneven nature of Doo-Wops. Mars isn't necessarily a bigger star than he was the last time around, but the craft at work on Jukebox rewards in other ways. With Ellie Goulding.
