More About

On July 4, in a celebration of American bodies both beer-gutted and lean, the seventh annual Freedom From Pants Ride will bring joy to Minneapolis's streets. The FFPR is a slow-paced bike party that has, in years past, drawn hundreds of nearly naked cyclists. This year's edition will begin at a vacant lot on the edge of Northeast and conclude at Powderhorn Park's Independence Day festivities. Why bike without pants? It's super, super fun. In fact, until you join FFPR's crowd, you might have no idea how burdensome clothes are to bicycling. The highlight of the event is always the body-of-water stop (last year's ride visited Lake Calhoun; the previous year's hit Hidden Beach), where everyone tosses their bikes aside and runs into the water. There's nothing so fine as a mid-ride dip in a lake. The fact that you're joined by 300-some happy cyclists makes it even better. Co-organizer Garrick Yoong has secured an FM transmitter, so expect to dance, too. (Photo by Taylor Paino)
