Zach Rogue may never find the same kind of pull as an Arcade Fire or even a Japandroids, but he's long since emerged as one of indie-rock's more reliable role players. After 2003's Out of the Shadow wound up getting his quintet signed to Sub Pop for 2005's Descended Like Vultures, a trail of understated pop craftsmanship followed. See 2006's elegant strummer "Eyes" and the 2007 almost-hit "Lake Michigan." June's Vagrant debut Nightingale Floors is the band's first LP since 2010's Permalight, and much of it indicates that Rogue has spent the last three years finding ways to get his songwriting on another level — from the backwoods psych-pop of "Figured It Out" to the steadily rolling "Siren's Song" to the Nick Drake hues found in the last moments of closer "Everyone Wants to Be You." 18+.
