This weekend, the Midtown Greenway will be bustling with pedestrians and cyclists on their way to various gatherings. This is pretty typical in the summertime. This Saturday, however, the trail will be less about getting from one place to another, and more about the journey itself. Now in its second year, the Greenway Glow will return with illuminated art installations, pop-up parties, performances, live music, and other activities along the path and at nearby organizations and businesses. The event is part benefit, part art festival, and part ride. Cyclists can choose from 5- and 10-mile routes, with free food from Bar Louie and drinks until the wee hours of the evening. Proceeds from the ride will go to the Midtown Greenway Coalition. Folks not participating in the benefit can enjoy plenty of free happenings as well, with poetry readings, live mural creations, a giant Lite Brite installation, three-minute plays from the Playwrights' Center, dance performances, dance parties, mobile karaoke, and more. For a complete list of locations and happenings, or to sign up for the benefit ride, visit midtowngreenway.org.
