"It was like saying I wanted to be an astronaut," says comic Gabriel Rutledge. "I didn't really understand how I would become a comedian. And then I went to an open mic, just to cross it off my bucket list, and I kept going back." He left the glamorous world of food delivery, which he says was actually a pretty nice job. "Gas was a little cheaper when I did it, but it was great." However, it wasn't quite as awesome as some people perceive it to be. "The pizza delivery business isn't at all like the way it's portrayed in the adult film industry." Occasionally, though, he would be offered illicit substances. "They'd say, 'We could give you a tip, or we could give you some weed.' I'd say, 'Give me the tip.'" These days, Rutledge talks about family life onstage. Often he doesn't need to write jokes, he simply repeats conversations. For example, there's the time his wife wanted a Pomeranian. "I said no, and she said, 'Well, if you die I'm getting one,'" to which Rutledge responded, "If you die, I'm getting a girlfriend." The kids figure into his act as well. One night following Dora the Explorer, an episode of NickMom Night Out, featuring Rutledge, came on. His daughter yelled: "Mom, Dad is on TV and he just said penis!" Rutledge shrugs. "Years of therapy there, I know." 18+.
