The Saintly City takes a turn for the sudsy this Saturday at the fifth annual St. Paul Summer Beer Fest. This year, 100 breweries are expected to participate, including 612Brew, Anchor Brewing, Vine Park Brewing, Widmer Brothers, and anyone else who brews a good beer. While the event is devoted to the hop arts, there will be more to do than drink beer. Boot-stomping music will include sets from Bitterroot Band, Como Avenue Jug Band, MN Bluegrass Band, Steve Sullivan and the Factory, Boys 'N the Barrels, and headliners the Big Wu. To assist in sipping responsibly, there will be plenty of food for grazing as well. A few educational presentations will also be happening throughout the grounds, where those curious about the art of craft beer can learn a thing (or three). All ticket proceeds will benefit St. Paul's Midway YMCA, and there will be a tent set up with silent auction items to bid on. As it is a big old drink-fest, organizers have made it easy to get to and from the event: Discounted designated driver tickets are available, and the event is sponsored by Metro Transit (check online to download a free bus pass). Tickets are available at www.stpaulsummerbeerfest.com.
