The Rebirth was one of the seminal bands of the nouveau New Orleans brass band movement. And 30 years after its founding, its roiling blend of NOLA tradition, jazz, soul, R&B, and occasional hip hop sizzles over a hotbed of high-energy, funkified second line beats. It continues to be led by brotherly co-founders Phil and Keith Frazier, on tuba and bass drum respectively, abetted by a talented krewe notably including trumpeter Glen Andrews, trombonist Corey Henry, and Derrick Tabb on snare. The Rebirth won a Grammy for its latest, 2011's Rebirth of New Orleans, a raucous assortment of originals (scorching instrumentals, party anthems with chant-along choruses), euphoric covers of standards ("Exactly Like You"), Trombone Shorty, and Dave Bartholomew, plus the ridiculously infectious brass band-Mardi Gras Indian summit "Let's Go Get 'Em." One of Rebirth's many albums is called We Come to Party. Take them at their word.
