This weekend, the Germanic-American Institute will be celebrating German culture in an epic, five-part celebration. Events kick off Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with the Lederhosenlauf 5K Run/Walk and Mile Fitness Walk. Costumes are encouraged, and past years have included runners dressed as sausages and beer steins. Following the race, there will be music and prizes for those with the best looks. Cyclists who love beer will want to check out the Bicyclists' Biergarten from noon to 4 p.m. Riders can enjoy a variety of Paulaner beers for $3, or sip on a Radler, a summertime cocktail that combines beer with lemon soda. From 5 to 10 p.m., the Oktoberfest-style Sommer Party will boast live music, dancing, and traditional food and beer outdoors. Finally, revelers still going strong can head on in to the Ratskeller, where there will be a dance party featuring Euro-pop tunes from 10 p.m. to midnight. Sunday's Deutscher Tag celebration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. is family-friendly, with German bands, food, vendors, and children's activities.
