Minnesota Dance Theatre: Fierce/Feminine: Dance by Women Choreographers

MDT 's "Fierce/Feminine" offers new works— and one classic piece — by women. Choreographer Emery LeCrone has been making waves in New York, where the New York Times lauded her work's "...propulsive energy and its structural complexity." Joanie Smith, of Shapiro & Smith Dance, certainly knows how to turn out ferocious dances that honor the female of the species in all her complexity. Her "A Portrait Project" is based on the divergent career paths of three former MDT company members, re-imagined on a new generation of dancers. Loyce Houlton's shimmering "Knoxville, Summer of 1915," set to music by Samuel Barber based on a poem by James Agee, rounds out this fascinating evening of dance. (Photo by Jeff Pedersen)
