It's been 10 years since T.I.'s breakthrough Trap Muzik, one of the crucial records of the early-aughts Southern rap boom with a lyrical weight to match its hustler charisma and ringtone-ready production. His career since then has wavered slightly, from the high of three straight chart-topping platinum albums in three years (2006's King, 2007's T.I. vs. T.I.P., and 2008's Paper Trail) to the low of his momentum-slowing prison stints. But T.I.'s still a regular presence on the charts and rap radio, and keeps on expanding his empire as he gets settled into veteran status. Last December's Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head was another strong effort to maintain his form, and while it's notorious for one of the biggest track-stealing guest spots in recent years — Andre 3000 going absolutely ballistic on "Sorry" — it's also got one of the most distinct, chest-out rasps on the mic at work in ways that'd still sound gripping reciting the back of a Wheaties box.
