ARTCRANK MSP

The annual event "ARTCRANK MSP" showcases custom posters from more than 40 local artists inspired by biking, and kicks off with a massive (and free) celebration of all things pedaled and screen-printed. Formed in Minneapolis in 2007 out of the Twin Cities' particular combination of bike and design culture, the exhibition series has since expanded to 11 U.S. cities, as well as London, Manchester, and Paris. According to event founder Charles Youel, a great ARTCRANK poster is one that reflects the community that hosts the show. Minneapolis does not disappoint; past designs include the Warehouse District/downtown Minneapolis as Tron as well as creative imaginings of the perils of winter riding. All of the limited edition, numbered, and signed posters will be on sale for $40 apiece. Portland-based Widmer Brothers Brewing will be on hand with beer in ARTCRANK pint glasses ($5 gets you two drinks and a glass to keep), with all proceeds going to healthcare for uninsured artists through the Springboard for the Arts foundation. The annual show seems almost like a distillation of what it means to be hip in Minneapolis, and it's gained in notoriety over time. Last year's event brought out over 4,000 fans, so expect a crowd. But don't worry about finding a place to lock up your two-wheeled ride: There will be free valet bike parking. After the opening, the show will move to One on One Bicycle Studio (117 Washington Ave N., Minneapolis) for an extended run from April 11 to May 4. (Pictured: Shannon Pettini, It Must Be Love)
