St. Patrick's Day

This Saturday, the city will be a little more green. Not more eco-friendly, mind you. Rather, folks will be dressing in their best jade, mint, hunter, and kelly-green tones while raising their pints to Irish culture and history. Events kick off in the afternoon with St. Paul's 47th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade (www.stpatsassoc.org). Come early to claim a good spot, and be sure to bring a thermos of hot chocolate (or hot buttered rum) to keep you toasty outside. The parade starts at Wall Street at noon, travels down Fifth Street, loops around Rice Park at Washington Street, and finally ends at the intersection of Market and Fourth streets. Afterward, you may want to stop over at the Landmark Center (75 W. Fifth St., St. Paul), where there will be family activities, crafts, music, and dance from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (admission is $4-$6). Or enjoy some beer and lunch at one of the Irish bars in St. Paul (the Dubliner, O'Gara's, and the Liffey are all good choices). Or, head over to the Xcel Energy Center, where seven nearby bars and restaurants will be celebrating with indoor and outdoor happenings.
