For her first solo exhibition at Franklin Art Works, local artist Pao Houa Her captures various aspects of Hmong and Hmong-American culture with photography taken over the past year. Images include shots of family members relaxing together or playing, still-life pics of food (both real and plastic), and colorful (and sometimes melancholy) portraits of family, friends, lovers, and Hmong Vietnam veterans. She will also be showcasing a series of black-and-white landscapes from her recent trip to Laos. This vast range of topics and narratives demonstrates the varied and complex world of Hmong culture and history, both past and present. There will be an artist's reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 15.
