More About

Rick Shiomi finishes his tenure as the artistic director of Mu Performing Arts with the show that launched his career in the 1980s, Yellow Fever. Shiomi, who earned a Lifetime Achievement Award at last year's Ivey Awards, will step aside from his post as the leader of Mu at the end of the summer after 20 years at the helm. Before he goes, he will direct this production at the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie Theater. Since its premiere in 1982, Yellow Fever has become an important landmark for Asian-American theater. The play centers on Sam Shikaze, a Canadian detective and second-generation Japanese American, who explores a noir landscape as he tries to find the missing Cherry Blossom Queen in 1970s Vancouver. Intrigue, politics, and questions of racial identity dog Shikaze's every step. Kurt Kwan, whose previous credits with Mu include Cowboy vs. Samurai and Yellow Face, stars as Shikaze. Other cast members include Sara Ochs, Wade Vaughn, Jeannie Lander, Alex Galick, and Brandon Ewald. Kwan and Ochs were featured in Mu's production of Into the Woods last summer. The show is in previews March 8. (Photo by Eric Melzer Photography)
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: March 8. Continues through March 24, 2013
