Original member of Headshots and the Dynospectrum collective, Mr. Gene Poole has been a local rap name to know since there even was such a thing. The past few years have been an indication of a return to form, with spots on Atmosphere's Welcome to Minnesota tour and Soundset suggesting a resurgence of the firebrand spitter's gift of gab. His Bionik-produced second full-length album, The God Particle, drops Saturday at a Triple Rock-hosted release party and proves the vitality of his work. New material maintains the underlying aggression while moving into a different sort of groove, but a Gene Poole show has always been a dramatic performance that's difficult to top.
