More About

The frigid temps aren't done with us yet, and it's likely that there's another snowmaggedon on the horizon. The groundhog lied. Rather than cursing him and all of critter kind, why not embrace the winter weather with a steamy bowl of chili? To further prove that you aren't the type to hold a grudge, attend the fourth annual Vegan Chili Cook-Off. The event is an entirely meat- and dairy-free feast thrown by Compassionate Action for Animals. This hot ticket grows in numbers every year; over 150 people attended 2012's cook-off. Best of all? It's a free celebration. However, if you feel like you're up for a little competition, or you've improved upon your mama's old methods, you can also enter to compete. Registration is $20, and participants must bring 24 servings of their stew to share. Be certain that you've got a container to keep your chili toasty, and, most importantly, that there are absolutely no animal products used in your preparation. Prizes will be equally animal-friendly, such as a gift card to Common Roots Café or a copy of Vegan Eats World by Terry Hope Romero. If you're a U of M student looking for transportation, head to the CAA office at Coffman Memorial Union for a bus pool. (Bring $4, or your bus pass.) See? We can all get along. Even if his name should be changed to Punxsutawney McLies-A-Phil. (Photo by t-dubisme)
