More About
If you gave Murs' name an autocomplete somewhere in your mind, there'd probably be an ampersand somewhere in there. Though the West Coast indie rap icon's got a long history of well-loved solo records -- 2003's The End of the Beginning belongs on any shortlist of the Definitive Jux label's best albums -- it's his collaborations that have really built up an already sizeable discography. And the MC that Rhymesayers heads have long known as Slug's partner in super-duo Felt gave fans a solid two-fer in 2012. The Final Adventure concludes a five-album string of collaborations with the equally prolific producer 9th Wonder, a teamup that dates back to 2004's fantastic Murs 3:16: the 9th Edition. This Generation, meanwhile, gives him a fitting lyrical compatriot in fellow Cali rapper Fashawn, who joins Murs tonight and can recreate some of that record's vet-meets-up-and-comer chemistry live. On both records, Murs proves why he's been a reliable fixture in underground hip-hop, embodying its DIY hustle and everyman insight without getting preachy or unfun. With Black Cloud Music, Kosha Dillz. 18+.
