This week the Walker's annual lecture series returns, bringing designers from around the world to the graphic-savvy Twin Cities for infusions of insight, methods, and examples. The series kicks off with Geoff McFetridge of Champion Studio in Los Angeles (his cover design for New York Magazine was in last year's "Graphic Design: Now in Production" at the Walker). McFetridge's clients include Greenpeace, MTV, and Nike, while his aesthetic ranges freely between pop-art psychedelia and childlike whimsy. His media is equally eclectic: silk-screened wallpapers, journal covers, and laser-etched toast, for instance. Accompanying his lecture is a temporary mural he created specifically for the Walker. Coming up are talks from Eike Konig from Berlin (who will create a work for the Walker website), and Job Wouters (performing hand-lettering techniques) and Luna Maurer (inciting audience participation) of Amsterdam.
