Maps are constantly changing to reflect the most current information we have on a region. Interestingly, many bits of history can be gleaned through studying the details of older versions. For example, what data map makers include can indicate our knowledge of an area (or lack thereof) and reflect our ever-changing political boundaries. For this installment of History Happy Hour, Patrick Coleman and Lori Williamson from the Society's Collections Department at the Minnesota Historical Society will discuss and exhibit some of the oldest and most unusual maps of pre-territorial Minnesota in their possession. This history lesson should be anything but dull, however, as admission includes two drink tickets and appetizers. Reservations are required, so call or visit online at www.mnhs.org to RSVP. 21+.
