More About

Black History Month enjoys a real boost as two companion exhibitions bridging black and white, Minneapolis and St. Paul, are celebrated with artwork in a variety of media. In the Gordon Parks Gallery at Metro State, Ta-coumba Aiken presents large-scale acrylic paintings that generate ambiguity with their markings, Joseph Norman explores light and shadow in his lithographic portfolio baseball series, and the late Gordon Parks is represented with his black-and-white photography. At MCAD, Aiken's installation includes a 30-foot mural and several circular pieces, while Norman unveils the third section of a four-part mural exploring the "middle passage."
