While The Book of Mormon plays downtown, the Guthrie Theater brings a local production of another highly lauded Broadway show to Minneapolis. Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities earned a number of Tony nominations, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and won a 2012 Drama League Award. Baitz has an extensive list of theater and TV credits, including creating Brothers and Sisters. In the play, Baitz explores a family divided by politics and a long-simmering tragedy that threatens to tear them all apart. Peter Rothstein of Theatre Latte Da directs the production. The cast includes several longtime Guthrie and area acting veterans, including Sally Wingert, Michelle Barber, and David Anthony Brinkley. They are joined by Christian Conn and Kelly McAndrew, who are both making their Guthrie debuts.
