Our Treasures: Highlights from the Minnesota Museum of American Art

The Minnesota Museum of American Art, formerly housed in multiple locations throughout St. Paul, has been homeless since 2009. The museum's formidable collection of 4,000 works, however, continues to speak for the historic institution -- currently in the form of "Our Treasures," an exhibition on tour since August 2011. Curated by executive director Kristin Makholm, the collection settles into the Weisman Art Museum this week. The 30-some works in the show include such media as painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, and even craft. Thematically organized around such topics as Native American art and Midwestern landscape, the works are by artists ranging from former executive director Cameron Booth, to local luminaries Wing Young Huie and Warren MacKenzie, to such giants as Alexander Calder, Joan Mitchell, Louise Nevelson, and Ed Ruscha.
