More About

Perhaps tearing a page from the Walker Art Center's playbook, where curators for the Dance Works series have been brilliantly exhibiting a treasure trove of costumes, objects, artworks, and set pieces deployed in Merce Cunningham Dance Company performances, the Minneapolis-based Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater (SPDT) is doing something similar. "Art in the Everyday" not only includes scenic art by Ronald Aiji Kajiwara (former design director at Vogue) and luscious costumes by our own Sonya Berlovitz, but quotidian objects integral to the company's theatrical work. Remember the sandbags in "Sentry"? The raincoats from "Ways to Be Hold"? The swimming pool from "Swimming to Cecile"? These and other pieces will be contextualized with performance footage. Also, during the opening reception, company performers will interact with objects and visitors standing by. The public reception is from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, February 9.
