More About

This year's Expanding the Frame concludes with a night of films, slides, and conversation with Luther Price. Like Bill Morrison, featured earlier in the series, Price works with old film, though where Morrison seeks out film that has organically decayed in abstracting ways, Price often manipulates the found footage himself, coloring, scraping, and subjecting it to burial and other degradations. His slides are realized in a similar hand-edited fashion, and treated like miniature collages composed of film fragments, candy sprinkles, insects, dirt, and other true grit. Some of the work is broadly in the direct animation tradition of Stan Brakhage and others, though one doubts it's like anything you've seen before (and indeed, most of the work for this evening has been created specifically for the event).
