Resident Artists IX: Rule of Thirds

If Schoolhouse Rock taught kids of the '70s and '80s anything, it was that three is a magic number. It shows up frequently in religious texts, mathematical equations, science theories, and history. For Altered Esthetics' latest group show, artists will be exploring the influence and impact three has had on their artwork. For Melissa Borman, this means presenting her sea-level photography in triptych format, using three images placed together to form a larger piece. Dominique Winders also works in triptych, presenting African-style paintings thoughtfully placed together in threes. Morgan Pease celebrates the triangle in his abstract painting, The Only Real Number. Meanwhile, Vigee Blue employs three to examine time in a painting titled Before, During, and After. There will be an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, January 4, and an artists' discussion panel from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, January 12. (Vigee Blue, Before, During, and After)
