More About

Folks looking for a family-oriented happening with a little substance this long holiday weekend need look no further than Minnesota History Center's Kwanzaa Family Day. This year's celebration at the museum falls on day four of festivities and honors "ujamaa" (a.k.a. cooperative economics). Store owners, organizations, and artists will be on hand to discuss their careers and businesses, including doll maker Phyllis Chatham, hair weaver/stylist Mary Reed, and people from the Cookie Cart and Project Sweetie Pie. Performances throughout the day include an opening ceremony with Sha' Cage, music from Bruce Henry and the Walker West Music Academy Jazz Ensemble, African folktales and storytelling from Danielle Daniel, and theater. Business owners Cynthia Johnson (Living Soul Cuisine) and Rose McGee (Deep Roots Gourmet Desserts) will present cooking demonstrations, and show hosts from KMOJ radio will discuss money-management tips and tricks for adults and teens.
